Examination & Prevention at Roe Street Dental Practice, Macclesfield, Cheshire

Our practice is based on prevention. As we all know prevention is better than the cure, and this is very true in dentistry.

The majority of dental problems are preventable and we offer all of our patients a customised prevention programme.

Our in house hygienist can offer you extensive prevention advice with an intense scale and polish to remove gum disease causing calculus/tartar and unsightly stains.

Below is some general advice to reduce the risk of dental disease.

  • Brushing twice a day with a 1400ppm fluoride toothpaste
  • Spitting after brushing, and not rinsing
  • Use of an electric toothbrush with a rotating-oscillating motion, such as a Braun-OralB brush
  • Using a flouridated mouthwash at a different time to brushing
  • Reduce the amount and frequency of sugar, with the aim of restricting sugar intake to meal times
  • Use of interdental cleaning, either flossing or interdental brushes
  • Avoiding tobacco products
  • Reducing alcohol intake
